Day 4 in Dundee

Surprise, it’s not raining.
Today we toured the Kingsway campus where the hospitality students run a restaurant for the general public as well as the student refectory.

We also discussed the college staff’s visit to Keskuspuiston ammattiopisto next May. What do we remember the most? The warm and friendly atmosphere, all the opportunities for student participation, the carefully planned transition to the college, the business incubator....the list could go on forever.

The 3 rd day in Dundee

Guess what, it’s still raining, feels like home.

We started the morning at Gardyne. Kate told us about all the different ways the college tries to enhance the student experience by encouraging participation in various extracurricular activities and special programmes.

We did work shadowing with two next step groups. The first had a lesson in health and wellbeing. The second group were studying cleanliness in the kitchen.

We spent the afternoon at the Kingsway campus
where we discussed employment support for people outside the labour market. Because it was still raining they gave us a lift back to the hotel in the college’s electric car.

It is still raining.

We started the morning at the campus in Gardyne. We were shown a brief presentation of the college and some fun facts about Scotland.

We were then given a tour of the facilities e.g. a lovely inner courtyard designed by the students. The business incubator supports students who want to start their own company. Here we met Judith who makes Scottish dolls.

We were also introduced to the students in supported education who were learning lifeskills. We also met two exchange students from Omnia who study accounting and finance and were doing on-the-job learning at the library.
In the afternoon we visited the campus in Arbroath. There we met a group of students who were learning to tell time.

 We were also shown the engineering and hospitality departments as well as the animal care training. The students had a pop-up hair salon in the lobby.

The flight via Sweden to Dundee

We were very lucky that a group of boxers were flying to Edinburgh from Helsinki. Otherwise we would have missed out connection in Stockholm. Norwegian air waited for us because the group was so big.

We managed to take the train to Dundee. The hotel is close to the city centre. It is raining.

Travel to Valencia

Keskuspuiston staff is going to take part to Mobility Project: Enter Europe. This will be our first time in Valencia.

Wednesday, 1st November

Cultural Visit to the City

During the two hour city walk, we saw many intresting buildings. And we learn a lot about Valencia´s history. The city walk guide was excellent.

Behind the Hotel Reina Victoria

On Wednesday we walked more than 10 kilometers. In Valencia you can easily also travel by metro. And we noticed that Valencia city is full of history. And of course we found many cafeterias.

Visiting Xabec vocational school. We were given very good overview over the programs Xabec is offering for Spanish and foreign students. We also made presentation of our Keskuspuisto Vocational College. Later on visited in different departments to get a better understanding of their training and practical exercises.

A word about ProjectX: This is a method of unifying and configuring vocational tasks and skills demonstrations and especially their assessments in different countries. Each participant country and college was required to produce one task for evaluation by other participants. There is a book about this subject funded by Erasmus+.

A word about "Save arrival project": A method where the risk of drop out is detected by five questions. After that drop out risk is categorised into three levels and students belonging to two highest categories are provided with support. 


Negotiating about Xabec and KPAO future co-operation as well as planning the possible time for spanish teachers to visit in Helsinki.

Saturday 4th November

Travelling back home. When we will be back at  the workplace on monday, we have a lot of ideas how to make co-operation with Xabec. We are waiting for a chance to  share Xabecs methodologies and ideas for our collegues.
