Smeaton's Tower

Originally built in 1759 the lighthouse was taken down in the early 1880s when it was discovered that the sea was undermining the rock it was standing on. Most of the structure was moved stone by stone to its current resting place on the Hoe. Now standing at 72 foot high, its lantern room offers pretty views of Plymouth Sound and the city. The whole building has been restored to its original glory.

The Royal Citadel

The Royal Citadel in Plymouth was built in the late 1660s. It is at the eastern end of Plymouth Hoe overlooking Plymouth Sound. Access to the Royal Citadel is by Guided Tour only.

The old town of Plymouth

The old town of Plymouth has a long and rich history as a seaport. There are several fascinating older buildings, one as an example is Elizabethan House, a half-timbered merchants house built around 1584.
